  • Backstory

Burly the Legend bridges time, and represents so many things. As a white oak, it symbolizes the legacy of Kalapuya stewardship of this land; it was their practice of controlled burns that shapes the land we live on today. The “Old Oak”, which was also a white oak, is the symbol of Linfield University. A true beauty in the Oak Grove, Burly is not lacking in character. Check out its wonderful leaves and dropping acorns in early fall. Burly also represents the future — after graduation, students gather with their families and professors in the Oak Grove, and Burly will be there to see you off!
